Spinal Decompression Cost in Los Angeles: What to Expect

Spinal decompression cost depends on how many treatments your plan needs, whether you already have an MRI, and your coverage. At Los Angeles Spinal Decompression®, your first DRX9000 treatment is $149 when you bring an approved MRI. Dr. Karr sets your full plan after your evaluation, so call Betty for exact pricing.

What Affects Spinal Decompression Cost?

No two plans look the same, because every spine is different. Still, four things usually drive the total:

  • Number of treatments. In one published case series, patients received 20 treatments, two to three times per week. Your plan may be shorter or longer.
  • Imaging. Our $149 first-treatment price requires an approved MRI. However, if you already have one, you may not need another.
  • Your condition. A herniated disc, a bulging disc, and sciatica can each call for a different plan.
  • Coverage and payment options. Plans vary, so we check before you start.

Spinal Decompression Therapy Cost in Los Angeles: What We Can Tell You

Your first DRX9000 treatment at Los Angeles Spinal Decompression® is $149 with an approved MRI. Because we can’t see your imaging until you call, we don’t quote a full-plan price online. Instead, Dr. Karr reviews your MRI first. Then Betty gives you the plan and the cost in plain terms, before you commit to anything. In addition, she can confirm what counts as an approved MRI.

Does Insurance Cover Spinal Decompression?

Coverage varies by plan, and Medicare does not cover spinal decompression. For that reason, call Betty before your first visit so she can verify your benefits. You can also ask about payment options, including CareCredit.

How Does Spinal Decompression Compare With Surgery on Cost?

Surgery is a different kind of decision. For example, a 2020 cost analysis put the average single-level lumbar fusion at about $22,890 (Beckerman et al., Global Spine Journal, as cited in the case series below). However, cost isn’t the only factor. Some conditions need surgery, and decompression isn’t a replacement when surgery is medically necessary. Dr. Karr will tell you honestly which situation you’re in.

What Does the Research Say Before You Pay?

It’s fair to ask whether the treatment works before you ask what it costs. A 2025 case series followed 13 patients who each received 20 DRX9000 treatments. In that group, median pain fell 80%, and disc height grew by 1.0 to 1.6 mm on average (Connolly et al., Journal of Contemporary Chiropractic). Also, in a 2022 randomized trial of 60 people, decompression added to physical therapy beat therapy alone (Amjad et al., BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders). However, that trial used a different device than the DRX9000.

These studies are encouraging, but they have limits. For one, the case series was small and had no control group. In addition, it received support from the DRX9000’s maker, Excite Medical. So results vary from person to person.
